5 Nonsurgical Treatments for Wrinkled Skin

Wrinkles are part of the aging process, but that doesn’t mean you have to accept them. At Polavarapu Plastic Surgery, we offer a variety of nonsurgical treatments that can help reduce wrinkles and give your skin a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Neuromodulators, injectable fillers, and chemical peels are some of the most effective treatments to combat wrinkles without going under the knife. In this blog, Dr. Kiran Polavarapu discusses these various treatments in detail so you can decide which one is best for you.

What causes wrinkles?

A combination of factors works against your skin, including age, exposure to the sun's UV rays, smoking, genetics, and environmental pollutants. Also, as you age, your skin slows down its collagen and elastin production, so it naturally begins to thin and lose its elasticity, causing wrinkles, sagging skin, and other signs of aging.

How Dysport® banishes dynamic wrinkles

Dysport is a popular nonsurgical treatment for wrinkles that temporarily paralyzes the muscles in your face, resulting in fewer visible wrinkles and an overall smoother appearance. This neuromodulator is best known for reducing the appearance of facial furrows between the eyebrows called glabellar lines but also addresses wrinkles on your forehead and neck.

Although other neuromodulators exist, Dr. Polvarapu prefers Dysport because it produces dramatic results in 2-3 days. Regular Dysport injections smooth out your frown lines, and they’re quick and painless, require no downtime, and last three to six months.

Injectable fillers to the rescue

Injectable fillers are another popular option for wrinkle reduction because they deliver immediate results and last a long time. Dr. Polavarapu injects a customized solution into your skin to help restore its volume and fill in wrinkles. Of course, results vary depending on the product, but for most people, fillers provide long-lasting results of up to a year or more. Dr. Polavarapu trusts the Galderma family of fillers, including Restylane® Defyne, Restylane® Contour, Restylane® Lyft, and Restylane® Refyne.

Restylane®

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid (HA)-based filler that delivers dramatic results by filling in the depressions and creases that develop on your face as you age. Using proprietary XpresHAn Technology™ to manufacture a pure, clear gel formula, Galderma products create soft contours and smoother textures that promote free, dynamic expressions. Each product in the Restylane line specializes in a specific facial area.

The XpresHAn technology enables each product to control the HA linking in your skin, making them highly flexible and customizable.

Belotero Balance®

Belotero Balance also uses HA to target fine lines and wrinkles, specializing in the lower face region. It fills in lines around the mouth and enhances your lips for a fuller and more youthful appearance. You’ll see the results immediately and can expect them to last six months or more.

Chemical peels

Chemical peels are a popular treatment for wrinkles, but unlike Botox and fillers, chemical peels reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles externally rather than internally.

Chemical peels use acid solutions in various strengths to exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and revealing smoother, more youthful-looking skin beneath. Chemical peel results typically last for up to a few months.

How to prevent wrinkled skin

When it comes to maintaining healthy skin, you can make a few lifestyle changes to help reduce wrinkles.

First and foremost, it’s important to use sunscreen daily, as ultraviolet rays from the sun can accelerate aging and cause wrinkles.

Avoiding smoking or excessive sun exposure also protects your skin and reduces the risk of wrinkles.

Finally, eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough rest can help maintain healthy skin and keep wrinkles at bay.

But if age and life have done a number on your skin, we can help. Contact Polavarapu Plastic Surgery in Fort Worth, Texas, to learn more about nonsurgical options for smoothing your wrinkled skin.
