If so, then you already know how the process of deciding to have this procedure done is a very personal journey. And, wherever you are in your decision-making process, you can find help and guidance here.

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, can raise and reshape breasts that may be sagging because of pregnancy, nursing, lost skin elasticity, and the simple fact of gravity. Am I a Good Breast Lift Candidate?

As a high-level checklist, the best candidates for breast lifts fall into these categories:

  • You are physically healthy and maintain a stable weight
  • You do not smoke
  • You have realistic expectations
  • You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts sag or have lost shape and volume
  • Your breasts have a flatter, elongated shape or are pendulous
  • When unsupported, your nipples fall below the breast crease
  • Your nipples and areolas point downward
  • You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas
  • One breast is lower than the other

A breast lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily change your looks to match your idea or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with  Dr. Polavarapu. She takes her time with each patient so that they don’t feel rushed and can get all of their questions answered.

As noted in the checklist above, the best candidates for a breast lift surgery are healthy, emotionally-stable women who are realistic about what the surgery can accomplish. It’s also the case that the best Fort Worth plastic surgery results are usually achieved in women with small, sagging breasts. Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in heavy breasts.

As another caveat, many women seek mastopexy because pregnancy and nursing have left them with stretched skin and less volume in their breasts. However, if you’re planning to have more children, it may be a good idea to postpone your breast lift. While there are no special risks that affect future pregnancies (for example, a breast lift usually doesn’t interfere with breast-feeding), pregnancy is likely to stretch your breasts again and offset the results of the procedure.

Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume–for example, after pregnancy–breast implants inserted in conjunction with a breast lift can increase both their firmness and their size. If you’re considering a breast lift and would also like to augment your breasts at the same time, let Dr. Polavarapu know. She also specializes in mastopexy with breast augmentation for women who feel that their breast size is too small or who want to restore lost breast volume to create symmetry in breasts that are moderately disproportionate.

In sum, breast lift surgery is a highly individualized procedure that you should do for yourself after ensuring that you’re a good candidate, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image. If you're considering this breast surgery procedure in Fort Worth, consult with  the highly skilled  breast lift surgeon, Dr. Polavarapu, for guidance.

What Are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, as the name implies, uplifts the appearance of your breasts for a more attractive, feminine appearance. By removing excess skin and tightening tissue, Dr. Polavarapu can restore sagging breasts for a more youthful look, ensuring that the nipple is optimally placed for a natural appearance. Although this procedure differs from a breast enhancement, after your breast lift in Fort Worth, your breasts can have a fuller, more shapely presence. If you’d like to combine a breast lift with an augmentation, let Dr. Polavarapu know during your professional consultation.

All Breast Lift Surgeries Carry Some Uncertainty and Risk

A breast lift is not a simple operation, but it’s normally safe when performed by a qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon like Dr. Polavarapu. Nevertheless, as with any surgery, there is always a possibility of complications or a reaction to the anesthesia. Bleeding and infection following a breast lift are uncommon, but they can cause scars to widen. You can reduce your risks by closely following the doctor’s advice both before and after surgery.

A breast lift does leave noticeable, permanent scars, although they’ll be covered by your bra or bathing suit. (Poor healing and wider scars are more common in smokers.) The procedure can also leave you with unevenly positioned nipples, or a permanent loss of feeling in your nipples or breasts.

What is the Breast Lift Surgery Process?

What to Expect With a Breast Lift

In your initial consultation, it’s important to discuss your expectations frankly with Dr. Polavarapu and to listen to her opinion. Every patient–and every physician, as well–has a different view of what is a desirable size and shape for breasts.

Dr. Polavarapu will examine your breasts and measure them while you’re sitting. She will discuss the variables that may affect the procedure–such as your age, the size and shape of your breasts, and the condition of your skin–and whether an implant is advisable. You should also discuss where the nipple and areola will be positioned; they’ll be moved higher during the procedure and should be approximately even with the crease beneath your breast.

She will describe the procedure in detail, explaining its risks and limitations and making sure you understand the scarring that will result. She will  explain the anesthesia to be used, the type of facility where the surgery will be performed, and the costs involved.

Don’t hesitate to ask her any questions you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results.

Depending on your age and family history, Dr. Polavarapu  may require you to have a mammogram (breast x-ray) before surgery. You’ll also get specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications.

While you’re making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out for a few days if needed.

Breast lifts can  be performed in a hospital, an outpatient surgery center, or a surgeon’s office-based facility. It’s usually done on an outpatient basis, for cost containment and convenience. If you’re admitted to the hospital as an inpatient, you can expect to stay one or two days.

Dr. Polavarapu performs her breast lift surgeries at the Texas Health Cleburne Surgical Center. Located at 2010 W. Katherine P. Raines Rd. #100 in Cleburne, this is only twenty minutes away from her office off Bryant Irvin Road on Edwards Ranch Rd. Everyone at this surgical center is committed to quality patient care and excellent clinical outcomes, always seeking continuous improvements. This is why the center has a 4.9-star rating out of five stars on Google review.

Breast lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia, which means you’ll sleep through the operation. In selected patients–particularly when a smaller incision is being made– Dr. Polavarapu may  use local anesthesia, combined with a sedative to make you drowsy. You’ll be awake but relaxed, and will feel minimal discomfort.

Breast lift surgery usually takes one and a half to three and a half hours. Techniques vary, but the most common procedure involves an anchor-shaped incision following the natural contour of the breast.

The incision outlines the area from which breast skin will be removed and defines the new location for the nipple. When the excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved to the higher position. The skin surrounding the areola is then brought down and together so that Dr. Polavarapu can artistically reshape the breast for your unique contours. Stitches are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line extending downwards from the nipple area, and along the lower crease of the breast.

Some patients, especially those with relatively small breasts and minimal sagging, may be candidates for modified procedures requiring less extensive incisions. One such procedure is the doughnut (or concentric) mastopexy, in which circular incisions are made around the areola, and a doughnut-shaped area of skin is removed.

If you’re having an implant inserted along with your breast lift, it will be placed in a pocket directly under the breast tissue, or deeper, under the muscle of the chest wall.

What Happens After Breast Lift Surgery?

Post-Surgical Expectations

After your procedure, Dr. Polovarapu, as your plastic surgeon in Fort Worth, will give you post-operative instructions. You will wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressings. Your breasts will be bruised, swollen, and uncomfortable for a day or two, but the pain shouldn’t be severe. Any discomfort you do feel can be relieved with medications that she can prescribe.

Within a few days, the bandages or surgical bra will be replaced by a soft support bra. You’ll need to wear this bra around the clock for 6 weeks. The stitches will be removed about two weeks after surgery.

If your breast skin is very dry following surgery, you can apply a moisturizer several times a day. Be careful not to tug at your skin in the process, and keep the moisturizer away from the suture areas.

You can expect some loss of feeling in your nipples and breast skin, caused by the swelling after surgery. This numbness usually fades as the swelling subsides over the next six weeks or so. In some patients, however, it may last a year or more, and occasionally it may be permanent.

Healing is a gradual process. Although you may be up and about in a day or two, don’t plan on returning to work for a week or more, depending on how you feel. And avoid lifting anything over your head for three to four weeks. If you have any unusual symptoms, don’t hesitate to call Dr. Polavarapu. She will give you detailed instructions for resuming your normal activities. You may be instructed to avoid sex for a week or more, and to avoid strenuous sports for about a month. After that, you can resume these activities slowly.

Dr. Polavarapu will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible. Still, it’s important to remember that breast lift scars are extensive and permanent. They often remain lumpy and red for months, then gradually become less obvious, sometimes eventually fading to thin white lines. Fortunately, the scars can usually be placed so that you can wear even low-cut tops.

You should also keep in mind that a breast lift won’t keep you firm forever–the effects of gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight fluctuations will eventually take their toll again. Women who have implants along with their breast lift may find the results last longer.

Your satisfaction with a breast lift is likely to be greater if you understand the procedure thoroughly and if your expectations are realistic.

Fort Worth Breast Lift FAQS

Have a specific question? Contact us!

A breast lift surgically lifts and reshapes breasts that have lost volume and perkiness due to the effects of time. During a breast lift, Dr. Polavarapu can also reduce the size of the areola and add breast implants to enhance the overall look.

Women who have small, sagging breasts usually get the best results from a breast lift. A breast lift can help you if:

  • You have breasts that look flat, elongated, or pendulous
  • Your nipples fall below the crease of your breasts
  • Your nipples point downward
  • You have stretched breast skin
  • One breast sags more than another

To be a candidate for a breast lift, you should also be a non-smoker and be in generally good health. Dr. Polavarapu can evaluate your breasts and your aesthetic goals to determine if a breast lift or another procedure is best for you to reach your goals.

Generally, breast lift surgery is considered cosmetic, meaning it is unlikely to be covered by medical insurance. Dr. Polavarapu offers patient financing plans.

One option is plastic surgery financing through Cherry, which comes with a fast, easy, and convenient application process with no hard credit check. Cherry financing has high approval rates, and the financing program offers flexible options. Approved applicants can choose from a variety of monthly repayment plans, including a 0% APR option for people who qualify. The Cherry self-serve patient portal allows you to seamlessly make your payments.

A second option to pay for your breast lift in Fort Worth is CareCredit Medical Financing. This is a credit card available for use for health, wellness, beauty, and plastic surgery procedures. The card doesn’t have an annual fee, and it allows you to conveniently make flexible payments on your procedures. With CareCredit, just like with Cherry, you can see if you prequalify for financing without the application impacting your credit score. This card can come with promotional offers and, if you quality for the CareCredit Rewards Mastercard, you can receive reward points for your expenditures.

As another issue to consider, if you’re also interested in breast augmentation or a mommy makeover, talk to Dr. Polavarapu to see how you can save on costs by having more than one procedure done during the same surgery.

There is no one right age for a breast lift surgery. Once the breasts are fully formed (around age eighteen or so), then the surgery is a possibility. Then, women who are in good health and fit the parameters covered in the section of this page titled “Who Are Good Candidates for Breast Lifts? Am I a Good Breast List Candidate?” may decide to have the procedure done.

Older women, just like younger ones, can feel a surge of confidence and well being after a breast lift surgery and, if sagging breasts caused any discomfort, this can help to address that situation.

As part of your mastopexy in Fort Worth, Dr. Polavarapu will ensure that your nipples are optimally and symmetrically aligned with your newly raised and reshaped breasts. Immediately after the surgery, nipples may look swollen; as the swelling subsides, though, the nipples will look natural as part of your new cleavage.

You’re placed under general anesthesia for a breast lift, which takes 1½ to 3½ hours. Dr. Polavarapu typically makes an anchor-shaped incision along the areola and in a vertical line down from the nipple area to the crease of your breast. She reduces any excess skin, moves your nipple and areola to a higher position, and reshapes the remaining skin to create an enhanced, lifted breast.

In the first days after your surgery, you’ll wear a compression bra over gauze dressings to protect your breasts, which may be bruised, sore, and swollen. This bandage is replaced with a soft support bra that you wear 24 hours a day for 6 weeks.

You may have numbness in your breast skin and nipples following surgery, but typically sensation starts to return after six weeks or so.

Healing takes time, and you’ll need to modify your activities for several weeks. Dr. Polavarapu may recommend you avoid lifting anything over your head for 6 weeks and skip strenuous exercise for about 6 weeks. You should plan on taking at least a week off from work following your surgery to facilitate recovery and healing.

It’s a common misconception that, during a breast lift surgery, nipples are removed and then reattached. Instead, they are repositioned for a natural looking appearance with your newly lifted breasts.

After your breast lift in Fort Worth, Dr. Polavarapu will share the information you need for your recovery and answer all your questions. Following instructions closely, staying well hydrated, and eating a nutritious diet will help during your recovery. Avoid alcohol use and, if you’ve smoked in the past, don’t start back up. Participate in gentle walking and other exercises approved by Dr. Polavarapu.

To learn whether a breast lift may be the right procedure for you, call Polavarapu Plastic Surgery or book an appointment online.
