If so, then you already know how the process of deciding to have this procedure done is a very personal journey. And, wherever you are in your decision-making process, you can find help and guidance here.
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, can raise and reshape breasts that may be sagging because of pregnancy, nursing, lost skin elasticity, and the simple fact of gravity. Am I a Good Breast Lift Candidate?
As a high-level checklist, the best candidates for breast lifts fall into these categories:
- You are physically healthy and maintain a stable weight
- You do not smoke
- You have realistic expectations
- You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts sag or have lost shape and volume
- Your breasts have a flatter, elongated shape or are pendulous
- When unsupported, your nipples fall below the breast crease
- Your nipples and areolas point downward
- You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas
- One breast is lower than the other
A breast lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily change your looks to match your idea or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Polavarapu. She takes her time with each patient so that they don’t feel rushed and can get all of their questions answered.
As noted in the checklist above, the best candidates for a breast lift surgery are healthy, emotionally-stable women who are realistic about what the surgery can accomplish. It’s also the case that the best Fort Worth plastic surgery results are usually achieved in women with small, sagging breasts. Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in heavy breasts.
As another caveat, many women seek mastopexy because pregnancy and nursing have left them with stretched skin and less volume in their breasts. However, if you’re planning to have more children, it may be a good idea to postpone your breast lift. While there are no special risks that affect future pregnancies (for example, a breast lift usually doesn’t interfere with breast-feeding), pregnancy is likely to stretch your breasts again and offset the results of the procedure.
Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume–for example, after pregnancy–breast implants inserted in conjunction with a breast lift can increase both their firmness and their size. If you’re considering a breast lift and would also like to augment your breasts at the same time, let Dr. Polavarapu know. She also specializes in mastopexy with breast augmentation for women who feel that their breast size is too small or who want to restore lost breast volume to create symmetry in breasts that are moderately disproportionate.
In sum, breast lift surgery is a highly individualized procedure that you should do for yourself after ensuring that you’re a good candidate, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image. If you're considering this breast surgery procedure in Fort Worth, consult with the highly skilled breast lift surgeon, Dr. Polavarapu, for guidance.
What Are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?
A breast lift, as the name implies, uplifts the appearance of your breasts for a more attractive, feminine appearance. By removing excess skin and tightening tissue, Dr. Polavarapu can restore sagging breasts for a more youthful look, ensuring that the nipple is optimally placed for a natural appearance. Although this procedure differs from a breast enhancement, after your breast lift in Fort Worth, your breasts can have a fuller, more shapely presence. If you’d like to combine a breast lift with an augmentation, let Dr. Polavarapu know during your professional consultation.

All Breast Lift Surgeries Carry Some Uncertainty and Risk
A breast lift is not a simple operation, but it’s normally safe when performed by a qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon like Dr. Polavarapu. Nevertheless, as with any surgery, there is always a possibility of complications or a reaction to the anesthesia. Bleeding and infection following a breast lift are uncommon, but they can cause scars to widen. You can reduce your risks by closely following the doctor’s advice both before and after surgery.
A breast lift does leave noticeable, permanent scars, although they’ll be covered by your bra or bathing suit. (Poor healing and wider scars are more common in smokers.) The procedure can also leave you with unevenly positioned nipples, or a permanent loss of feeling in your nipples or breasts.

What to Expect With a Breast Lift
What Happens After Breast Lift Surgery?
Post-Surgical Expectations
After your procedure, Dr. Polovarapu, as your plastic surgeon in Fort Worth, will give you post-operative instructions. You will wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressings. Your breasts will be bruised, swollen, and uncomfortable for a day or two, but the pain shouldn’t be severe. Any discomfort you do feel can be relieved with medications that she can prescribe.
Within a few days, the bandages or surgical bra will be replaced by a soft support bra. You’ll need to wear this bra around the clock for 6 weeks. The stitches will be removed about two weeks after surgery.
If your breast skin is very dry following surgery, you can apply a moisturizer several times a day. Be careful not to tug at your skin in the process, and keep the moisturizer away from the suture areas.
You can expect some loss of feeling in your nipples and breast skin, caused by the swelling after surgery. This numbness usually fades as the swelling subsides over the next six weeks or so. In some patients, however, it may last a year or more, and occasionally it may be permanent.
