5 Surgical Options to Enhance Your Breasts

Sep 1, 2021

Everyone has their own definition of beauty, and for many women, breasts are front and center. So if yours don’t quite measure up to your personal standard, you may find that you lack confidence in social situations, become frustrated with wardrobe options, or feel sexually inhibited because of your perceived imperfection.

At Polavarapu Plastic Surgery in Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Kiran Polavarapu, our board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, has dedicated her career to helping people reach their aesthetic goals with a comprehensive list of procedures, including breast enhancements. Based on her extensive experience and expertise, she helps women navigate their breast treatment options, making sure they have realistic expectations of the procedures and the potential impact on their lives.

If you’re dissatisfied with your breasts, Dr. Polavarapu offers five distinct enhancement procedures that deliver stunning, yet natural, results.

1. Breast augmentation

Breast augmentations are the most popular type of cosmetic breast surgery. Nearly 200,000 women a year opt for this procedure to help them achieve a fuller or more proportionate bosom.

To accomplish this, Dr. Polavarapu inserts either a silicon- or saline-filled implant underneath your breast tissue, or in some cases, under the pectoral muscle. These implants come in a variety of materials that have different textures, shapes, and sizes to match your ultimate vision.

The main reasons for this surgical procedure include:

  • Increase the size of small breasts
  • Restore lost volume after pregnancy
  • Achieve breast symmetry
  • Alter breast shape

Breast augmentation also creates a foundation for a “new breast” or provides a new contour after breast removal or breast disfigurement.

2. Breast reduction

The opposite of breast augmentation, breast reduction takes away, rather than adds, volume to your breasts. If you have exceptionally large breasts and struggle with the weight, the bra strap indentations, the back and neck pain, and the skin rashes, you may be a good candidate for this procedure.

Here, Dr. Polavarapu removes excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin to lighten your load and give you firmer, smaller, more proportionate breasts.

3. Breast lift

Like all mass, breasts succumb to the force of gravity, and over time, they droop and sag. Even small breasts fall victim. Breast lift surgery elevates your breasts back to their original positions so they look and feel more youthful.

To achieve this, Dr. Polavarapu makes an incision on the underside of your breasts, removes excess skin, then relocates your areola and nipple to a higher position. The effect is a tighter, perkier chest. However, gravity continues to pull on breast tissue in the years following your breast lift, so eventual sagging is inevitable.

Breast lifts are often performed in conjunction with breast augmentation surgery, as the two complement one another to create a fuller, lifted breast.

4. Revision breast surgery

If you’ve had one or both breasts removed to prevent or get rid of cancer, revision breast surgery gives you the option to recreate the look of natural breasts. Dr. Polavarapu can achieve this in one of three ways:

  1. Inserting an implant after expanding the skin with a balloon-like device
  2. Grafting skin from another part of your body to create a flap or pocket for an implant
  3. Creating a flap with nearby attached tissue; with or without an implant

Dr. Polavarapu helps you navigate your options to decide which procedure is best for you.

5. Nipple/areola reconstruction

After revision breast surgery, your new breasts have the right size and shape, but they’re missing two defining features — the nipple and areola. Dr. Polavarapu skillfully recreates these important parts by grafting skin from other places on your body. If the color isn’t quite right, you may want to consider a tattoo-based nipple reconstruction for a more realistic look.

All breasts are beautiful, but if yours don’t measure up to your ideal, it’s nice to know you have options.
