Laser hair removal uses gentle laser energy to erase your hair follicles so hair can no longer grow. It’s effective in a number of areas, including the:

  • Underarms
  • Bikini line
  • Arms and legs
  • Chest and back
  • Face

Laser hair removal is one of the safest and most common cosmetic procedures performed in the United States.

Diode laser hair removal is the most revolutionary and effective hair removal treatment available. The hair follicle absorbs the laser energy, which destroys the follicle, so it can no longer grow hair.

The diode laser uses a single wavelength of light that’s highly effective in targeting pigments in your hair follicles. When the pigment in the follicle absorbs the laser energy, your hair’s root is destroyed. The laser does not affect any of the surrounding tissues.

If you’re bothered by excess hair and are tired of shaving, waxing, or plucking, then laser hair removal is for you.

The diode laser is effective for hair removal on all skin types. You shouldn’t pluck or wax in the area you’re having treated for about six weeks before your treatment, as the laser needs to be able to target your hair at the root. Shaving prior to treatment is OK though.

Skin that’s tanned responds less effectively to the laser, so avoid sun exposure and tanning treatments for six weeks before your laser session. Your skin is also more sensitive to sun exposure following laser treatments, so use a high-potency sunscreen following laser hair removal to protect yourself from sun damage.

Hair grows in cycles, and laser hair removal is most effective when your hair is in a growth cycle. You need 3-7 sessions to effectively treat all of the hair in an area to be sure you hit all of them during the growth stage.

Dr. Polavarapu can help you determine exactly how many treatments you may need, depending on your skin type, hair density, hair texture, and the area being treated.
